From September 16 to 20, 2024, students from the XIX generation (2023-2025) of the Executive MBA program at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) participated in the International Seminar II: Doing Business in China, held at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).
Students from the XV generation also attended the seminar, as they had previously postponed this course due to the pandemic.
Seminar Content
During the seminar, participants attended six intensive courses designed to provide a comprehensive view of the Chinese business environment:
China and Its Business People (Prof. Li Zhou)
This course focused on developing a critical perspective on Chinese culture and business behavior, highlighting similarities and differences with other cultures.
China’s Political and Economic Environment (Prof. Yi-min Lin)
This course covered the fundamental aspects of the Chinese economy, as well as the challenges and evolution of the state-party system.
Developing Innovative Mindset and Culture (Prof. Xiaodong Yang)
This course introduced key concepts of innovation and explored how culture impacts the development of new ideas, complemented by an interactive Weiqi workshop.
Investment in China (Prof. James Zhang)
This course provided an overview of venture capital and discussed the opportunities and risks of investing in the country.
Doing Business in China (Prof. Cassian Cheung)
This course offered tools to evaluate market entry strategies and understand the structure necessary for efficient operations.
Marketing in China (Prof. Kristiaan Helsen)
This course analyzed the landscape of middle-class consumers and strategies for brand launching and building, including digital marketing.
One Belt One Road Initiative & Opportunities in Greater Bay Area (Prof. Naubahar Sharif)
This course presented an overview of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the opportunities it offers for businesses in the region.
The seminar not only provided students with practical tools and valuable knowledge about the Chinese market but also fostered greater intercultural understanding, preparing them to face challenges and seize opportunities in one of the world’s most dynamic markets. This experience reaffirms ITAM’s commitment to training business leaders with a global perspective.
